"Animal just listen to both Phanz first to get a feel of the passage of time and the whole epoch concept they went with. Will also give you a good handle on the band itself"
Roger! I've already listened to the first couple tracks off Phanz I, so I definitely enjoy their modern sound. I'll finish that duology, then come back to this

The stretch from Atlantic until the end is just so much more solid than the first 3 tracks. Still need to listen to it more so I could settle on a score. Has been on repeat since yesterday

If you take the first three as build up to the real meat of the album, they work exceptionally, but it definitely takes adjusting. And I don't know how well they'd stand if encountered just by themselves.

Sea of Reeds has been the biggest grower for me already, 4-5 listens in it's sounding really nice, but yeah I'm glad I skipped this as a single and wouldn't ever cherry pick it outside of a full album listen.

Karin Park's vocals on Unconformities are stunning. These guys really know how to get a good feature on their stuff and properly utilise them too.
And yeah everything from Atlantic onwards is fantastic. Just a shame about the first 3 songs not being as good. I had the same gripe about Leprous' Meliora. A really solid album about 4 tracks in but the first few were kinda meh.

Yeah as standalone tracks, they tend to not be as strong as the others, but in the context of the whole album they fit. I just feel they meander a lot more than they need to be.
Sea of Reeds is definitively a grower.

One spin in and I honestly don't know how to digest this. It definitely needs to be listened to as a whole and not by single songs. Later during the day I'll dedicate some time to listen to it again, but you guys sure seem to love this.

The choices these guys have had for singles have always been kinda weird, like how they dropped Jurassic as the lead single for the last album.
Definitely better to just absorb the entire release with these guys I think.

Robin mentioned in an interview that Preboreal through Atlantic will only every be played live with all 4 songs, so I think they also agree that the first 3 songs don't standalone.

I'm a big fan of this band's sound overall, so I'm pretty easily hooked relatively speaking lol. As a full-album experience, I just love the flow this has too.

Not familiar with Karin Park but she's giving big Chelsea Wolfe vibes and I really love it.
Also I know it's still super early and probably only the people really waiting for this have checked and rated thus far but it's sitting at 4 on rym and i'm surprised it's not more divisive.

Well any metal that charts on RYM is quickly murdered lol, don't get too optimistic.

i wonder if putting the first 4 songs into one big track would change anything about their reception, i believe so. i do prefer it like this though.

"Ive tried some songs here and there and dont get it"
Ectier, try listening to Devonian: Nascent. I think it's their most singlely-like song.

Devonian:Nascent is still probably my favourite song these guys have done. Jonas' vocals on that track are just *chefs kiss*

I didn't even realize it featured Katatonia! I've been jamming Sky Void of Stars recently, so I have high hopes for that track
