Album Rating: 2.5
72 Seasons is a masterpiece.
This is not meant to sound like hyperbole; Metallica's new album is the strongest, most powerful statement they've made as a band since ...And Justice For All.
There is no question that in the last 35 years since Justice was released, Metallica have created unforgettable, game-changing and historic records; the "Black Album" will forever reign supreme in its own universe as one of the greatest albums of all time and St. Anger will get the credit it deserves one day. But never have Metallica sounded angrier and yet more in control than they do on 72 Seasons—and it's largely thanks to James Hetfield.

A lot of cool ideas in Inamorata, but not eleven minutes worth, IMO.

Who ever said this was more energetic than Hardwired was obviously trolling

The album is way too long, trim it to like 50 minutes and this would be really good imo.

I think that's a consensus opinion even among those that actually like this.

What songs would you all definetly cut? I might do a condensed tracklist as a second listen

Knowing that the singles are on the weaker side in comparison to the rest of the album is a comforting sign. I'll check it but I don't have high expectations.
But I really liked this review. You clearly know your way around their discography.

Still early days and I'm not going to trim until I've got at least 5 listens through so far, but You Must Burn and Darkness are likely to go if I make a condensed tracklist.

Almost finished the album and this is definitely more consistent than Hardwired (although, Hardwired has higher highs) but not quite as good as Death Magnetic. This is probably a 3.5 for me but I could see it creep up to a 4 on repeat listens. The album has some of the best soloing the band has had in a while and James Hetfield still sounds great on vocals. All this album really needs is to have at least 15 minutes cut off. But yeah, currently love 72 Seasons, Lux Aeterna, Crown of Barbed Wire and Chasing Light.

Honestly I enjoyed this for what it is. First listen was much more positive than hardwired which I thought was a bit crap if I’m honest.
I did burst out laughing a few times when I thought a song had ended and they just copy paste another chorus at the end for good measure.
Trim some fat and this would easily be their best album since what’s his face joined on bass.

"What songs would you all definetly cut?"
The trio of Suicide, Sleepwalk and You Must Burn is an absolute snoozefest imo
