well at least now he can jump on the non-binary train and try to remain relevant for his bravery and cultural relevance. Not a single trait of his needs to improve yet he can demand more respect and recognition of his special condition. Our culture is so sad.

Very good thread here.
Edit: Yes Wretched, very sad that people get offended over others' pronouns and can't sleep at night due to it. I can't wait to hear what Roseanne Barr has to say about this.

“imagine not respecting peoples pronouns in the year 2023”
Imagine life being so hard..this being the thing people worry about in 2023…

I do not know who Sam Smith is
But I have an opinion on him
I know who Sam Smith is
And I want to have his babies

2nd worst lazy album cover of the year..

I don't judge people on their looks but with Sam Smith I just do. The guy looks like a football hooligan who enrolled into art school by mistake?

I love how many people get irrationally butthurt over a bad pop artist wearing red and having pronouns. Society do be in shambles over the words they/them apparently

I love how sputnik deletes comments for simply expressing opinions

"as someone whose native language doesnt even have official neutral pronouns i think its usually a lot more about not being close to queer people/friends/family following queer artists etc. than not being used to gender neutral language"
read through this entire shitheap of a thread and, even post-nuke this^ is the only salvageable Good Comment...
"it's so fascinating how you can choose to not be a miserable little transphobic creature on sputnikmusic dot com and yet several people don't seem to realise that jfc"
apart from this and whichever porc/grynd takes

"but why would you use gender neutral pronouns for everybody when it's only non-binary people that want to be referred to by those pronouns? like if someone explicitly asks to be referred to by he/him or she/her then wouldn't it be kinda disrespectful to use gender neutral pronouns for them"
think the point here is to use gender neutral pronouns for everybody *unless you know their preferred pronouns*? personally prefer to just google (for artists/public figures) if there's even vague ambiguity, and 99% of the time all doubt is immediately cleared up - but either way, ig the main thing is just not to lean too heavily on your ideas of other people's identities...
"I love how sputnik deletes comments for simply expressing opinions"
...and if you think those ideas come down to the innocuous level of mUH opInIon, there's a healthy precedent being set itt

Ignore this comment, I can't delete it for some reason.

Nevermind, my bad. I found it. Wish you could delete comments lol I feel big dumb now.

idk it doesn't really seem reasonable to use gender neutral pronouns for everybody to me. because if someone identifies as non binary then they obviously don't want to be referred to by gendered pronouns but for the 99% of people who aren't non-binary they might feel the same about non-gendered pronouns. I think we should just refer to people by whatever they want and using they/them for everybody would most likely result in more people being referred to by pronouns that they don't actually want to be preferred by, I get the intention behind it though
|
| |
I'm also still trying to make sure I get it from a grammatical perspective, "they/them" can be used to refer to a single non-binary individual but the words that follow are still used in their plural form right?
|
| |
"but for the 99% of people who aren't non-binary they might feel the same about non-gendered pronouns"
sure, but then they simply make their pronouns known (in a public bio/on an email signature etc) and all is well. this doesn't really inconvenience anyone and the more it's normalised, the less of onus is placed on nb people and the less of an awk thing it is to talk about irl. shit's p much the norm in theatre (as will surprise approximately no-one lol) and never struck me as a big deal
and yh they/them = one person but conjugated as plural. Sam Smith is a musician from the UK. They make godawful music. It is a shame that they are at the apparent heart of this site's gender discourse, but whatever gets the ball rolling etc

“It is a shame that they are at the apparent heart of this site's gender discourse, but whatever gets the ball rolling”
Frances Quinlan needed a break. 48 hour moratorium on any Hop Along thread bumps

yeah I guess I can see the logic behind gender neutral pronouns for everybody and I don't think there's anything wrong with it but given the prevalence of people who fall within the gender binary vs non-binary people I don't think it's actually realistically achievable and honestly probably not worth the effort because a lot of people will react negatively and it just causes more conflict around an already contentious topic. and it's the type of thing where everybody has to kind of be on board with it because if only some people are it'll just create confusion

so anyway the part in I'm Not Here To Make Friends where they go "la la la la la la la la la" is so bad something about it is just so awful
|
| |
If you call someone by they/them pronouns they automatically become queer and spontaneously spawn both a romper and an oversized jacket with elbow patches in their closet.
This is the gay agenda
|
| |
i'm only scared if they make me wear nipple tassles with my romper
