And I can see what you mean about Lombardo. He lays down some solid drumming on this album, but I can't think of a single time when it's really truly jaw-dropping. I'll stick to Nicholas Barker for that.
The stuff he does on 'Catalyst', 'Consfearacy', and 'Supremist' is amazing. What really sets him apart from other drummers is the fact that he can do it all live. The speed that he can play at is unreal, and to see him do it in concert is jaw-dropping.
The speech is one of the few things I like about this album...
I love it. I'm going to put it in my football locker so I can read it before each time I hit the field. This Message Edited On 08.11.06

south_of_heaven 11, lots of metal drummers can play stuff like he does at that speed. While he may have some pretty good chops, I still don't think he's as good as you make him out to be.

I'll always think otherwise about Dave. My head still explodes from his work on 'Silent Scream' and 'Seasons in the Abyss' (the song).
Apparently though, I've heard he does his best work OUTSIDE of Slayer on his side projects and stuff, so I'll have to check it out...

Hmmm...if that's the case then I'll have to look into that. As of right now, all I hear are fast double bassing and blast beats, but it's nothing that lots of other drummers can't do.

1. I can make the review as long as I want. I covered every aspect of this album through my eyes.
2. It's funny you talk about "what they try to pass as vocals" cause Phil sucks as a vocalist with Pantera, Dave is a whiny little girl with Megadeth, and James is decent with Metallica. Only good...er, amazing vocalist out of those bands is Bruce. And everyone knows he owns.
3. Ok, cool. I'm glad you got a laugh out of Slayer. They don't 'act like 12 yr olds', nor do they write like it. It's just people like you will turn up their noses at the stuff they write, which they write to be the complete opposite of how a normal people would think. There's our world, and then the world that Slayer attempts to creates through their music in an effort to prove that theres another way of thought. I may hate other bands, but I don't go around making them out to be a joke.
1. I was just saying that it was a bit long, I don't think most people read the whole thing on their first look.
2. Im not a huge pantera fan but I think the vocalist is pretty good, he's one of the few people with "cookie monster vocals" that I enjoy. And I shudder at the thought of the kind of women you've been with if you think Dave has a womanly voice.
3. The only thing I was putting down was there album and song titles. Would no one agree that God Hates Us All is one of the worst album titles ever?
All I was saying is that a 12 year old could make up a random title like that "I Like To Bleed" sounds like it could be a Slayer album. And I don't know what you mean by they write totally opposite of what people would expect...I listened to a clip of Angel Of Death and before it got to the vocals it could have been mistaken for Metallica or Megadeth.
But if your talking about lyrics I just read threw Angel Of Death and I was shocked to say it's got some good lyrics.
But I just find it kind of lame when it seems like their titles sound like they sit around trying to think of something that makes them sound hardcore.

Judging by these comments, it's obvious you're not much of a metal fan. If you honestly think Slayer's instrumental work sounds like Metallica or Megadeth then you might want to seriously consider taking a closer look. Slayer sounds nothing like those bands.

...Slayer isn't some emo band dude.
I listened to a clip of Angel Of Death and before it got to the vocals it could have been mistaken for Metallica or Megadeth.
Wow...Shadows is right, you must not be a big Metal fan...Slayer is completely different than those two bands
And I don't know what you mean by they write totally opposite of what people would expect
I was talking about how they write the lyrics...

This album is almost as heavy as the Format, who by the way I'm rather liking at the moment.
I might change my rating of this.

Is that Bron or JPH?^^ This is confusing.
|
| |
I guess you didn't see the explanation.
That story was fictious. I (Bron) made it up as a joke, and forgot to mention that it wasn't true. John Paul is John Paul; and no one else.

This review sparked my interest in Christ Illusion, which I liked enough to check out other Slayer albums. I've gotten every pre-Undisputed Attitude Slayer album as well as CI and I'm hooked on Slayer. So thanks to SoH11 for getting me into Slayer. :D
