A lot of stuff in the vein of Stigmata wasn't particularly original and I never said it was. It just kind of did things well that I'd praise for other heavy metal albums. That said, this is very clearly a step down from any Liiva era stuff just by comparing the drumming, let alone the riffs lol

The performances are practically on par for harsh vocals and at the very least, Liiva is less annoying so that's a point in his favor.

Not really. Liiva's vocals are not that far removed in the slightest and Friden's were easily just as monotone along with the rest of IF's songwriting at that time.

colony is peak melodeath and anders vocals on there are way more varied and interesting than liiva's barking. i don't hate liiva's performance on stigmata because my tolerance is pretty high but saying they are on the same quality level is a bit funny.
