Digging into this rn.. heard the four singles (or was it three) that came before release and I'm not surprised in the least that so many In Flames fans are jumping ship. It's tame and safe and all that, but tons of fun regardless. Glad someone is keeping the OG Gothenburg sound alive and in style

Lol Anders was guilty of some Jonathon Davis-isms on STYE, especially quiet place. Outside of that album, I hear zero similarity lol

Okay, this is pretty good. Sure, it might be nothing more than modern In Flames with Mikael Stanne on vocals (which I guess answers my years-long "what if" had Mikael Stanne stayed after Lunar Strain) on the surface, but it's still nice to hear something like this again.
I will say Matt Heafy is an odd feature though, not sure why he's here haha.

This has more in common with modern DT really. Only has some flashes of in flames here and there

Sound-wise at least. Going into this with the lineup I expected just modern In Flames+Mikael Stanne, but I was pleasantly surprised to hear elements of DT in this, it's great that they mixed them.

From https://www.goetiamedia.com/
It was like in the beginning, when we met up. 'Well, what kind of music should we go for? Should we go progressive, RUSH kind of thing? Let's make a song. Let's make some cool stuff. Let's just start with some parts, bits here and there. And the first song we actually wrote together is a song called 'Gateways'. And it's kind of mellow but creepy with a haunting vibe. The intro, the verse thing is like a horror movie kind of thing that blends out in this big, thick chorus, which unmistakably is that kind of genre. So we thought, 'All right. This is the way we should go. And the main topic should be don't overthink too much and just have fun with it.' And that's what we did with the whole album. This is a lot of love and a lot of fun — and no overthinking."

They had to do those clean choruses, goddammit. And really cringe lyrics too.

There's only clean vocals on like two songs.... and they're barely even there.

I only heard a few of the singles, figured there'd be more. Thats good news.

Saw their Wacken performance and figured I'd give the album a shot. Nothing groundbreaking but it's pretty good, certainly better than anything In Flames has done in the last 20 years. Conditional and Shadowminds are my favorites.

Mikael has a decent singing voice. Nothing to write home about. I like his singing alright but I've never been like "wow he's totally killing it here" lol
