true about a lot of bands (loathe, vexes) but nooot these guys. hell this is likely the worst deftones clone ive ever heard
hard [2] my man tyman. their strengths are not deftones's strengths at all. the instrumentation is hella dumbed down, the vocal melodies are completely tuneless and aimless, and that distorted static-y vocal effect might work on chino since hes not the most proficient singer anyway, but on jacob's powerful belty voice it just sounds like he's clipping nonstop and it's straight up painful to listen to

ngl the first half of this is pretty decent, but when Cassanova hits, it's all downhill from there. if this was an EP of the first 5 tracks then it would've been an easy 4

yea i dont like valentine but the first 4 songs are all solid enough. i kinda like varsity hearts too and the closer has a few cool moments to it, but the mid stretch of this album is baaaad (tho the interlude is kinda cool)

First listen today and I just thought: why are they trying to be Deftones?
Get on Sput and read everyone saying the same.
Gotta love this place.
It's not good but it has some good stuff here and there. Gotta listen a few more times.

Aloneaflame - i take your point and i for one dont like bands being typecast, but theres no way around it, as a fan of deftones and of this new album, its VERY deftones.
Luckily i like it.
I dont see it as a bad thing, for me its not even trying to say they have ripped off deftones or anything like that, it just sounds very very deftones in numerous sections of the record.
Other parts of the record it doesnt!! Dont forget that. But in many places it does - to such a degree in those particular parts that it seems to have been a very contrived and i will say homage to them
Disagree most modern bands sound like deftones. They dont. This album does. Not a bad thing, great thing in fact for mine.

There are only like two songs on this entire album that I even tolerable. The rest are absolute garbage. I just don't understand how a band can go from a masterpiece with the Dark Pool, to the crap pile that is Heroine.

A departure from the last release. Interesting songs and lots of 90s/00s influence. I was thinking Deftones/Muse, but I can see the Smashing Pumpkins too. It's alright, but I won't be playing this one on repeat.
