lol boney this has high ratings from all the wrong staff members (sorry jesp, you're a coke base for a fuckin rough vanilla vod mix) and slex, so imma be gracious and say that your 5 is cancelled out rather than part of the problem here :]:]

woah how dare you, hyped to get mildly annoyed at the inevitable johnny 3.3 tho

(then again the yeule argument is a vaguely strong one so maybe 3.5 who knows)

Praying to Mother Cain for a Johnny 3.9, that would make my year

is the yeule comparison based more on this being a compelling identity piece or does its production capture a kaleidoscopic ego-death in a manner that empowers music as a vaguely still valid artform or whatever

The second one mate . I think this is lyrically way better than glitch princess

glitch princess lyrics only rly work because of its strength as an identity piece, so that's kinda beside the point

Lol that’s why it doesn’t work for me. This is stand alone really impressive. Hard times in particular is really blowing me away

had a hard time getting into this just having it on in the background while i washed some dishes and did some other house chores. apparently the lyrics are very important to the experience so i'll try it again, but musically it was... nice, but nothing particularly mindblowing

"Thoroughfare" is an instant 5/5 song

Nice one Dyl. I will say the “tambourine and scat jam” goes on a bit too long so that one’s not quite a 5 for me but that part is growing on me and the main part of the song is just wonderful, a great centerpiece for the record. Love that this has a straight-up Americana song in that one too.

Gyro, the lyrics add to the experience but I do think the music itself insofar as it can be separated from that is amazing on its own, definitely grows on you and stands up to repeated/focused listens to unravel the layers - she has an amazing way of building songs up slowly and adding little touches here and there that underscore the lyricism wonderfully.

There are some jawdropping little moments on this anchored by consistently strong songwriting, like fuck it's so consistently good
