Too many good artists releasing albums this spring haha
Mclusky, Tune-Yards, AND Jenny Hvall all in the span of like a week
Also apparently Stereolab is back for the first time since 2010...probably skipping that one though cuz I haven't even gotten to Mars Audiac Quintet, Cobra, or Sound Dust yet

| |
don't forget Billy Woods, it's gonna be a strong summer

new album is a dream — confirmed

Kinda surprised Iris Silver Mist doesn't have a review yet
Did Classic Objects dissappoint people so much it killed the hype around her followup?
|
| |
that would be unfortunate -- I think this album is stunning

I'm listening to it now and I will make my mind up about it soon
That being said: Classic Objects was fairly weak for her out of the 4 I know of hers
Still need to hear The Practice of Love and Blood Bitch anyways lol
But: Viscera > Innocence > Apocolypse > Classic Objects
|
| |
yeah, i'm not as drawn to her earlier stuff as it seems most people are (at least on Sput)...
Blood Bitch is my #1 some days and Iris is feeling like top 3 rn

Hmmmmmm do you consider her first 3 as her "early stuff" or just the first 2?
|
| |
just Viscera and Innocence Is Kinky

Interesting
Viscera is very good, what makes it one of your least favorites?

Album Rating: 3.5
ALSO FINISHED! Better than classic objects, but probably behind Apocolypse, girl

i see her first three as a trilogy that was sort of interrupted by Blood Bitch

Hval's way of exploring songwriting seems vitally referential to me, and on the later albums I feel a joyously clinical self awareness in her approach to negotiating those references...along the lines of: "this is the part where Nine Inch Nails meets Joy Division" and that's a meaningful way to hear what the song is getting up to in that moment, if that makes sense haha
Whereas Viscera and Innocence feel more directly intuitive and haphazardly sprawling. Beautiful music abound, but other than enjoying how good she is at making sounds, the choices don't seem to add to the layers of listening for me.
...given that description though, I totally understand why people might prefer the raw immediacy haha...I just really enjoy her more deliberate approach

interesting. that's kind of switched around for me haha.
|
| |
I still gotta hear this.
I reviewed the Practice of Love so I hope someone with a bit more talent review this one.
|
| |
I'm two tracks in on the new one and it's really fucking good
|
| |
Oh yes, the new one is lovely! My favorite part is “I Don’t Know What Free Is” into “The Artist Is Absent”.
|
| |
Yeah that's a crazy transition.
Also the HAPPY BIRTHDAY moment lol
