Unlike the new Big Thief, I do think I prefer to pare this one down slightly. I'm not saying it makes a bad double LP/quad-EP/whatever, because for its length it is indeed very consistent -- however, my personal tolerance for 1.5 hr dream pop records simply isn't there and for as good as this is I'm not sure it's diverse enough to justify its length. That said, there's definitely a twelve song 4.5 worthy album here, and in spite of me shortening this for my own listening, I'll still never not enjoy listening to the entire thing should time permit.

I like this, but it’s definitely patience-testingly long for how uniform the vibe is in classic Beach House fashion. I mean there’s certainly more variety than their previous-7 stuff but still not enough to sustain my interest across this. They’re one of the last bands I’d have wanted to do a double of this length. I think approaching it as chapters is going to have to be the way for me because I can almost guarantee I will never want to listen to this in full again after the next week or 2.
