Relistening to Marigold right now and yeah it’s great and these albums are totally on the same level. Dotted Line, Alarmist, No Drugs, Endless…people forget how good some of those songs are

Moment and Alcove are also amazing

"people forget ... those songs"
guilty. how could u not :[
|

Moment is a top 5 PG song but Marigold is way too polished compared to their other albums, the mix is too clean

Haha what? it’s classic pinegrove subpar mixing. Can’t even relate to that criticism. Almost all of their albums were recorded in the same room and have the exact same prod quality
|
| |
Weird, I've only listened to it like twice and that was the impression I got but idk

Marigold sounds cleaner than Skylight and Cardinal. Although I wouldn't attribute this to location - maybe their equipment changed but the obvious telling is in the level of wet sound in their instrumentation. It's most notable in the snare drum, I think. Marigold is overall slightly dryer than Skylight which has a very noticeable level of wet and room left in. That's why it might sound a little more lo-fi compared to Marigold.

Well I'm glad I'm not crazy then lol

I think a lot of people said this before, actually. I remember it coming up on other social media websites. Paste Magazine mentioned it in their review of Marigold and the Pinegrove forums had a small discussion on it. I saw some folks talking about it on Reddit before, too.
Marigold was cleaner but maybe not clean. Just less damp than Skylight. Haha.

That production they have where it's so intimate n warm n sounds like they're basically playing in the same room as you just isn't there for me on Marigold and it's left me pretty cold on the album overall

I kind of like both, I guess. I appreciate how snappy the snare pops on Marigold. It has a really nice clap to it. Especially on 'Dotted Line'.
It's preference, of course. A lot of Grizzly Bear stuff has that temporal place - a sense they're playing in a room.

This is really warm and nice. Growing on me a bit more with each listen.

production on this is a noticeable step up from their earlier work while still retaining that warmth. reminds me of a warmer Bark Your Head Off Dog

also yeah Marigold rules and has an equal number of top tier Pinegrove tracks as this probably. replace No Drugs with Phase and I’m right there with you

I like 'Phase' and 'No Drugs'. They're both very good.

I really loved marigold but it ended up wearing off me a bit. I just was really wishing there was a bit more interesting guitar and riffs on it. This new one really balances it. Also there’s multiple tracks on here that sound truly unique for Pinegrove (Iodine and Habitat)

For sure, Iodine and Habitat are gonna be long-term gems in their catalogue (I hope).
as expected, this is continuing to grow on me. lovely lovely lovely.
