I've never understood why artists don't do that kind of thing more often. It's not all that difficult to have seamless transitions between tracks, and it really adds a sense of cohesion when listening to the full album.

This album as a unit is pretty great

I don't think it's necessary or even always appropriate to transition between songs. I think it's better kept as something that is planned in advance of some grander concept or as part of particular movement within an album rather than done excessively.
