My fiancé thinks they’re pretentious but loves the Blue Ghost, my bestie likes most of their discog, and I took him and another friend to see them live right before quarantine. They ended up liking the opener more lol Can’t remember the bands name but it did feature the guitarist of Kayo Dot at the time.

Nobody around me really likes metal (why do you think I'm posting here so often? I need to confirm I am not crazy for enjoying this music so much haha). In any case I thought mmm, maybe Kayo Dot could be a starting point, since they have some soft jazzy passages every now and then... I happen to be a huge Jazz fan and I never realize most people tend to find Jazz as chaotic as metal, altough not as noisy. Well I tried with a friend and a close family member and the result wasn't good, they simply did not get it. They thought the music made no sense, and I was using tracks from Choirs... Maybe next time I'll try with Coffins but I don't know. I admit I have a huge prejudice against most people's musical taste. It's not easy to find someone who loves this music for me

um my parents gave me a distantly appreciative "aww you're getting into jazz now" comment when I was first spinning BLD ages ago and my ex adored Marid's Gift of Art hm
also there is no way in hell that coffins is better than hubardo

Did anyone else notice that the full title of the album was added? It was one of those where the character count was too long to be added manually in full, but I'm guessing the mods have the ability to fix albums with a longer character count, and did so.

Album kicks ass but y'all are tripping to whoever thinks this is better than Hubardo

The singles (including The Knight Errant that was previewed for like a week waaay back when so shut up I'm counting it) all slay, especially The Necklace. Still trying to break into Epipsychidion though, it's not resonating as hard yet

Void in Virgo is incredible. Listened to the album yesterday on the fields during dusk and when that track played it was cathartic.

All I know is Choirs and Dowsing are top 2, and Hubardo and Coffins are somewhere in the top 5. PHoBoS is fifth best for me, and I suppose BLD is 6th. The rest I’m not so big on, except the bookends of Gamma Knife, and yeah Stained Glass is great.

I'm really loving Brethren of the Cross off this album and I've also enjoyed most of what I've heard so far, but like any Kayo Dot album I feel like time and repeated listens is essential in fully absorbing this album. My knee-jerk reaction of Blasphemy was that I was underwhelmed but now it fits a niche that I can appreciate. While I might place some albums above others in this discography, I generally think that every album sets out to do its own thing and can be appreciated on its own terms even if its not your favorite, it might just be perfect for certain moods. If every album sounded like Choirs then Choirs would probably be the only one worth listening to.

I kind of wish I hadn't listened to all the singles before the full thing was out though, kind of fucks with my perception of looking at the album has a whole rather than individual songs. Regardless, I'm looking forward to listening to this album for weeks to come.
