Read thru the lyrics but I still have questions. Was trying to figure out significance of Turpentine and found an article discussing it during this time period: http://civilwarrx.blogspot.com/2013/12/a-civil-war-pharmaceutical-turpentine.html?m=1
What happens to the brother? Is the whole family drinking angel blood or just Father? If mother and sister die then they couldn’t have bc they’d be immortal right? Or are they still susceptible to being killed? In Holy Vacants they die and and become ghosts stuck in purgatory right? I’m very curious about Cosmic Suicide- someone seems to have died but I’m not sure if it was protagonist or Father? I assume the son is hunting his family bc he believes they’ve sinned due to their involvement in murdering angels. Throughout there are references to God and almost sounds like the protagonist is considered a God? Hmm many questions but I’m enjoying it. Now that I’ve read thru the lyrics, I’ll continue listening and trying to decipher the story and it’s connections to Holy Vacants.

didn't think there was much more to turpentine beyond a highly flammable household commodity being q a cogent title for a tone-setting instrumental, but maybe there's deep lore
"almost sounds like the protagonist is considered a God?"
maybe, or does apply to the Father? took that line as the Brother jibing the protag, like lol do you rly wanna go there? also thought the implication in Father 2 was that the Father was the one murdering angels on behalf of the whole family (and potentially that he's already dead, like the HV protags), but might be wrong and am also unsure where that leaves the protag's original murder motivation

Regarding what happens to Brother,
"Yeah, I'll eat your pain
Destroy that pretty face
...
Sit back, enjoy the show"
To me this is very evocative of putting the barrel of the gun in Brother's mouth and killing him, or at least the submitting to protag/god. Mother refers to protag as her god
"My only god is you, my love"
Father refers to protag as a god
"In my eyes you are a god"
Protag considers themselves a god in Pestilent Star
"I am the god without a god"
and in Astral Pariah I sense a bitter sarcasm from protag (as god) mocking the god he was raised on (as he is killing his family he asks "Who’s god cares the most?")
and so when Brother ends with
"Don't got the space to fight with fucking God"
I see it as the final submitting to the barrel in the mouth. Dead like the rest of them.

Now the real question... Assuming Father is in HV killing angels, does the record Astral Pariah end with protag shooting Father in the mouth, but Father proceeds to not die?In Cosmic Suicide it is clear that blood has splattered everywhere related to a head wound by a line like
"You don't seem to mind at all, do ya?"
which >could< imply Father is alive (with the capability of minding or not) followed up much more definitively by
"You're shrieking in fear"
which Father could only do if he wasn't dead.
I'm word vomiting, I don't know jack shit. 🤷♂️

Cool interpretations. I agree with the story about what happens to the brother and yeah seems the father is still alive having been shot.

Wait the father is the male lead in Holy Vacants? Where are you getting this info from
Also while we're at it, do we know what exactly the son here is seeking vengeance for? The album doesn't put much too much of a backstory

I think the father being in HV is just theory atm. Needs more evidence.
And I believe the main character is seeking vengeance because his family resorted to hunting and killing angels. Still trying to figure out how literal of a “god” role the protagonist takes. “Prodigal son”, so how special is this main character?

Trophy Scars has never let me down or disappointed me with any release. It still boggles my mind how they are considered one of the gods of the genre

my impression was protag does kill Father, and the closer is actually Jerry-as-omniscient-narrator talking to protag instead of the "shrieking in fear" lines being about Father. similar to every release from Bad Luck to HV breaking the fourth wall a bit with the closer just being about Jerry's life
but idk. would be easier to engage with this if the fucking cacophony of instruments didn't drown out the vox every two minutes. it's better than my first impression, still having trouble buying it as great

so, this album is good huh? Listening today and it's just so good and dense. Doesn't even come close to Holy Vacants yet, though
