Found an old ass mixtape(CD) that had Smile Like You Mean It on it and remembered about this band. Will check out. Stellar review, also.

they pull off heartland rock well but I don't find this very melodically compelling, especially on the more acoustic tracks like "terrible thing" (that was in one ear out the other). good album overall though, 3.5

also sowing idk if you've heard "merry go round" by kacey musgraves but it hits a lot of the same themes you touch on here

I might have. I know I listened to her two non Golden Hour LPS, I just don't remember much. I'll revisit the song.

“Merry Go Round” is a hard 5/5, perfect piece of songwriting.

"Ah just as a nutjob as every other religious person then"

most religious people don't go on TV to argue for creationism so I'd say Flowers is a little more nutjob than usual

Someone in Brandon's mormon community must be angry with that album cover. I'm fine with it.

Who were the ones who used to practice polygamy? Jehova witnessess? mormons? meh, I don't care, they're all the same for me.

The tapes are giving me such a Science Fiction nostalgia. I'm loving this!

yeah the tapes make it better, all i had access to the first day was the abridged version and had no idea what the non-abridged version was until a few hours ago. definitely a Science Fiction vibe

Would I like this if I only really dig their first album? I’m not really a fan of the Springsteen direction they went in tbh.

I know he’s been cancelled and all but Ryan Adams was an influencer for this.

if the upcoming album they're teasing is half as good as this it'll be their best run of three albums by far and I will be super impressed

also Ronnie is teasing a deluxe of this with a rock version of Getting By on it. prayers do work
