Yeah those two you mentioned sit on the top of the genre for me so there's a good chance this just does nothing for you.

doom is a pretty broad subgenre, bands like solstice and khemmis have very little in common with bands like hell and loss. maybe try something classic like epicus doomicus metallicus from candlemass or stormcrowfleet from skepticism to get a broader sampling of some of the foundational influences on different doom styles but not everyone is going to be into slower stuff so ymmv
or just listen to the MSW song Obliviosus, that's one of the best doom songs ever

Just check Evoken or Bell Witch, ledd, if you're able to traverse a full record on one sit then you're basically equipped for anything else ;D

both good choices. listen to the loss song silent and completely overcome, it has the pallbearer singer in the intro and that song is just sublime.
doom metal is actually what got me into metal, specifically my dying bride waaay back in the day.

Oh I'm but a modest doom apprentice yet, that's for sure, I still struggle to finish a record in one sitting of any of the bands I mentioned above.

A very long one.
(It's great though, in the right space, in the right time, in the right mood)

agreed, Bellwitch' debut is the real tits imo, and a far better entry point. Sure I back any Pallbearer (and especially heartless).
@Ledd, grow some balls mate, check Esoteric too.
If you want to lean to the best deathdoom being made, wait for the new Hooded Menace.
Agree with quetzal and even the cliché of fem vocals in doom is a broad concept. You can dig or not these type of sludge takes, but there's also a more gothic approach, which never been my cup of tea, but it works for many.

As someone who's heard the new HM...... it's okay, not a benchmark.

Okay I won t let you bring down my hype "Mr. Gnocchi gets everything before its released".
As someone who hasn't listened to anything from the new Hooded Menace yet, if you don t get why their brand of FIN tight crusty deathdoom is a benchmark, you're just wrong lol...anyway no one talks much about them on this bloody site. I m here defending their colors m/

Wonderful review Dewi! Not really a fan of doom but this was great, and a lot of that had to do with Kris Esfandiari’s vocals, she can bring the fucking house down when she needs to

Bell Witch debut was one of the first doom albums I really enjoyed. Esoteric was the first one that really blew me away. The genre has been gradually getting its hooks in me for some time, but I still struggle with a lot I encounter.
