Jake Sinclair with these dudes would've ripped. frankly doubt they have enough good ideas for an EP anymore now
Opioid is a tune tho
|

damn Behind Your Walls is basically (Can't Get My) Head Around You with more autotune
|
| |
pretty bad album cover huh

looks like escape the fate or one of those bands

This band has been utter trash for 20+ years. Aside from the usual 2-3 songs per album that still sounds like The Offspring of old, they ran out of decent ideas after Americana and their re-recording of an almost 30 year old single just to cash in on a popular cover version is the ultimate in cynical cash-grabbing creative bankruptcy. The pop-punk equivalent of "How Do You Do, Fellow Kids". They should've just stuck with imitating Bad Religion with occasional Phyrgian riffs, they even reworked Keep Them Separated into a pro-vaccine song, my god the cringe

tbh ive never heard any of their stuff after americana but what you're saying sounds believable to me

I didn't mind when the re-recorded Dirty Magic, but yeah, this version of Gone Away was pre unnecessary. It was alright with just him and the piano, but when the strings started in I was pretty much done with it
I think they do that a lot live tho, playing a piano version of Gone Away, so maybe that's why they decided to record it. I remember them doing it the last time I saw them play

Not a fan of this Gone Away at all, the original is easily one of their best songs

I didn't mind this at all to be honest, although I didn't sit down and give it my full attention. Interesting to read about the production in the review, I just assumed it was a combination of Dexter's voice changing as the years rolled by and me not really listening to them much in the past 20 years. I stand corrected.

Sounds pretty solid to me so far after a couple of listens.
In fact it's very solid after a few weeks XD.

Only the back end of this album has any redeeming features. Opioid diaries decent but way overproduced, Hasan chop is the only good song on the record and the piano version of gone away certainly brings the feels and nostalgia although I feel they should have put the guest female vocals on to mix it up. So yeah I guess take two songs and throw the rest in the bin.

9 years of waiting for what feels like 9 weeks worth of rushed, unfocused, uncaring work.
Fuck sake.

Dexter sounds surprisingly on point playing old stuff live and then randomly "multiplies the autotune" for playing new songs. That's just a bizarre choice.

compare Self Esteem or Bad Habit to Opioid Diaries
