Thanks Veldin.
"I've only heard their last two albums and their first two albums. What other albums of theirs should I check out?"
If you want to know how the guys evolved, this might be a good jam: Tomb of the Mutilated >> The Bleeding >> Vile >> Bloodthirst >> Kill >> Torture
"Also what makes KILL have a higher amount of ratings than the other albums that come before and after?"
It's their Reign in Blood, in a way. Its success was mostly due to its straightforward/savage nature. Interestingly, it was never one of my favorites.

in the early days of youtube they were one of the most popular metal bands you could find on there, easily most popular dm
i think these days we take it for granted but myspace and youtube were instrumental in exposing a lot of people esp younger to a lot of music back in the mid to late 00s.. people who otherwise wouldnt have been on music sites anyway

When the lads started they were much less known than bands like Death, Morbid Angel or Obituary, but then Ace Ventura happened. BOOOM

Right on, thanks for the recs and for explaining the hype behind KILL.

idk if kill is super different in terms of style to any of their albums but they did have a lineup change and started getting much better at doing singles - the wretched spawn and earlier albums don't really have good equivalents for the sort of stomping mid-pace singles like Death Walking Terror, Evisceration Plague or Scourge of Iron

KILL pushed their sound into more technical territory whilst strengthening their groove elements also.
The biggest change was probably the production, Rutan brought in the trademark chunky guitar sound on that album and it's been pretty much him behind the production helm ever since
I think Skeletal was the only one he didn't produce since KILL and even that album retains the chunky/low end sound.

lol that chart
never heard an album from these guys before

I really enjoyed your review, and I'm glad you like it so much. I watched that Rutan playthough vid and preordered the CD, which is something I've never done. It'll probably stay in the car for a long time.

Riffs super hard, you can definitely tell Rutan's influence at some of the more chaotic/technical riffing but the album still hits the most when they get into a more mid-slow paced groovy part where they absolutely destroy. Great sound and solos. Favorite tracks: Necrogenic Resurrection, Ritual Annihilation, Follow the Blood.
