"Brian’s final masterpiece before he fell off his rocker imo"
absolutely hate this narrative because all it does is infantilizes him, so demeaning lol
people get so caught up in some myth that people like him and Syd Barrett were on some Icarus shit when in reality they were already ill in some way and their habits or surroundings only brought that illness to the surface. Brian could've kept making terrible car and surf songs and I feel like what happened to him was going to inevitably happen, whether it were in 1966 or 1976.

re: Good Vibrations
it plays a weird role where Brian was workshopping it during Pet Sounds, let it sit and then finished it. I feel more personally that its inclusion on Smile was more for the sake of ensuring there was a song the public recognized to make the total shift more acceptable, that or Capitol pushed for it. Conceptually, I feel it works, but tonally it is different.

If you haven't listened to the Dae Lims AI mix of Smile yet, you're missing out. Probably the closest anyone has gotten to what a completed Smile could have sounded like

ehhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
by nature, while I appreciate the ambition, someone singing what they imagine Brian and co. would sing and using trained AI Brians, etc. is rather ghoulish lol. Also that version has an atrocious Surf's Up ngl

Yeah didn't vibe with the Dae Lims too much. Still a noble effort. I'll say I like SonicLoveNoize's take on the tracklist and probably prefer it to the kitchen sink approach on here.
