If serving up a slab of droney ambience off the back of a sterile ‘rock’ album which has led to mind-mushed brats being frustrated into thinking this is useless and the band should’ve churned out more drek isn’t a band doing their own thing I don’t know what is.
It’s also good stuff. 4.

It’s quite nice this, not what I was hoping for obviously as I was a huge fan of the last album, but it’s decent. Not sure where to rate it yet but I can see it being on whilst I’m working quite a lot so I’ll probably know in a few days.
Also, the people taking joy out of fans not getting what they were hoping for are proper weirdos but the band should’ve definitely described what the album was before release to avoid disappointment.

Who cares band is still phenom

This kind of gives off Silent Hill 2 era Akira Yamaoka vibes. I do wish they would’ve sprinkled in some vocals in spots to make it feel more like Loathe, but it’s solid. 3.5/5 for me.

Based on the review, a 2 seems to be pretty generous.

YAY NEW LOATHE ONLY 1 YEAR LATER!
Oh, it's an ambient instrumental one.
Wait, I LOVE THEIR SOUNDSCAPES ON ILIIAITE!
but this roller coaster just levels out, it doesn't plummet. I'm not even whelmed, I'm just unaware and uninterested because it was so.....there.
I forgot I was listening to it while I finished the album. That's not supposed to happen. These sound like b-sides of solely their ambient experimentation for the last album. The clips deleted around the parts they used in the final cut. There's just nothing going on really. The basis for lush, immersive soundscapes, but we're teased with just a phew rambling phrases of instrumentation around droning. It's not bad, it's just there, saying nothing. Bizarre. I'm still a fan of these guys but this doesn't do it for me, and that's coming from someone who was ready to fall in love with an ambient LOATHE album.

To be fair amidst the more boring tracks there are great atmospheres. From about track 4-6, very Blade Runner esque. I find this to be a good release. Not great but good. Perhaps we need more ambient albums in the mainstream.

yeah I like the sounds but they never linger as long as they should while doing something interesting, which is a bummer imo

honestly i respect loathe for releasing something THEY wanted to put out
even if it means alienating their fans who don't listen to ~ambience~ until the next release
|
| |
Frustrating release simply because they never explained what it was going to be. Had they said 'we are releasing an ambience record' I doubt they would have received any backlash whatsoever.
Would have loved a 10 song album with 5 heavies melting into 5 ambient tracks, but maybe will have to wait for the next real record.

Damn is this really that bad... i loved the last album.
