It's compressed to hell DE, regardless I still love the record.
You're gonna love the synth work on here potsy, stands out more than any other 'Tones record.

having tried to listen to Gore a few times is making me feel a lot less critical of DE rn

"Hot take (???) but urantia is probably the worst song on the album instrumentally, feels really lazy
Btw I love ceremony, but no one is talking about it for some reason"
Agree with all of this, Urantia is kinda okay for me but nothing special and Ceremony is beautiful

@pika Urantia is sweet, Genesis is easily the laziest song on here.
Ceremony is great, ye.

I've seen a few say Ceremony is the weakest cut. To that I say huh? Song is just spellbinding.

Genesis is the weakest track here, easy.
Literally every other song I enjoy.
I was worried this wasn't gonna grow lol, sorry Chino.

Pompeji would be my pick for least fav so far. The "drink the cup of intent" refrain is just a little lacklustre.

Noooooo Lucman, its such a nice track!
The ambient outro is spellbinding, too.

Some of these DE songs have borderline Korn vibes lmao
That being said skimming this was a fun refresher. Prince and Risk are good.

This Place Is Death is an underrated tune.

"this definitely reminds me of White Pony/self-titled era Deftones, but in a good way"
Yep.
Usually when a band is more than several years removed from their most recognized work, and they return to that sound, it yields underwhelming results.
They played down the the return to earlier sounds in interviews leading up to the release, but it sounds like a natural return to that style for them. Doesn't sound forced in the slighted.
'Error' and 'This Link is Dead' could easily fit onto White Pony.

As cliche as it is to day this album really does seem to be a perfect summation of their sound to date. There's something for every deftones fan on it so I'd be really surprised if it ends up low on most peoples lists. And then there's some experimentation especially with the bigger emphasis on synths and keys throughout.
Don't think it cracks the top 3 for me but after how mediocre Gore was I'm well happy with it. Also heavily agree with this having some of their best production,

There's something here for everyone, I agree with that.
Sonically adventurous for Deftones as well, quite impressive 25+ years into their career.
