I think the placement is perfect too. The way the ending of "Hollow Structures" fades into it is such a powerful moment on the album. It really helps the flow from peak to peak.

only recently realised how this (and quite a few other recent pop punk/emo records) really runs with the magnolia-blueprint turnover established a few years back. it's like this brand of atmospheric pop punk is generally well-liked by most but not popular enough to fully take off

They have pop punk elements, but I'd hesitate to call 5hem a pop punk band at this stage. This is a lot closer to say, Gates' Parallel Lives, with the alternative and post-rock aspects taking center stage. You definitely get a taste of their pop punk leanings ("Bottom of the Lake" for one) but it's not as strong as it was on their debut.

yeah for sure, and i'm glad they doubled down on those post rock influences (i think re: my lungs was my fave off of the last one). i do think i'd still call this pop punk because it has a punky attitude while sticking with a lot of catchy melodies, even if it is fully basking in its atmospherical elements

but hey they're just genre tags haha, the music is simply great

Yeah for sure. "I Woke Up Laughing" is a gem. I love his voice as is, but when he opts to just belt out some lyrics it feels so cathartic.

Man, for a moment I thought I'd opened the thread for the new Corey Taylor album and was about to be like "what the fuck are you guys on about" haha.

But, while I'm here, just wanted to remind you that this album was really bland.

corey taylor undeniably embraces his post rock pop punk gates atmospheric tendencies on his seminal groundbreaking release cmft, yes

i think the contrasting of his smooth, gazey tones and the belting is what makes box such a beauty as well
