Makes sense. Even The Tallest Man on Earth immediately came to mind as 'a modern Dylan', lol. I know BE may be past their prime but I'm just surprised that after such a long time away, that resurfacing with an album this spectacular and accessible hasn't garnered more attention. Perhaps it is elsewhere, but here it's kind of a dead conversation.
"sowing I appreciate your return to wildly 5ing everything"
lmao. Popeye voice - "I yam what I yam". I usually have a handful of 5's every year, just what I consider my top 3-5 AOTY contenders. 4.5 is the next best runners-up (usually about 9-10 of those!), and then the 4's round out my top 25 or so. It changes often but that's generally how I do.

at least there's somewhat of a similarity between Matsson and Dylan's voices, comparing Bright Eyes to Dylan is just asinine

Yeah I don't think it's the most apt comparison, but so many of these labels get applied by lazy publications just looking to inflate the importance of the present.

Lazy comparisons are the worst. Seems like it's becoming increasingly common to describe bands/artists by just saying "they're like x mixed with y, with a little bit of z." I've probably done it too though
also let it be known that Sowing gave I Love You It's a Fever Dream a 2.8 when it came out. I ain't forget.

Oh I'm sure I've made plenty of lazy comparisons too. Bound to happen in 12 years.
I was initially disappointed with fever dream because it didn't push his sound like dark bird hinted that he would. It's still a nice record though.

I want to like this more than I do, but Conor's voice is an acquired taste that I have not acquired, except when it's diluted by Phoebe Bridgers

Yeah I get that. I've heard every BE album but was never a big enough fan of his vocals for it to overcome music that is only okay. The two times I've felt differently are this and I'm Wide Awake, and it's because the music is exemplary and for whatever reason I find his vocals and lyrics more relatable.

Man, to death's heart... What a song.

Also fever dream has been such a huge grower for me personally. Thought it was average at best for a couple plays but it's rly clicked with me lately

Agree with both those statements!

Tbh the final 3 tracks here elevate this to a 4 for me. Such an awesome sequence of songs. Persona non grata, mariana trench and dance and sing round out ny favourites

Yeah this thing just gets stronger and stronger as it goes on. I just happen to think that it also starts amazingly to begin with.
