Dont know why a rerecorded version was necessary. This version doesn't sound powerful enough as the original. Besides the remastered version was sufficient and it sounds great.

Who knew that 'Clayman' will be the low point in In Flames history?

naaahhh as bad as these re-recordings are i'd still rather sit through them than through battles

Jesus fucking Christ, they gave it the George Lucas treatment.
“Hey guys it’s been 20 years since our last decent album came out, and it’s STILL making everything we do sound like donkey shit. So how about we get the original masters, go back into the studio with my nephew’s midi keyboard, and vomit all over them? Maybe we could mix in some Linkin Park vocals. People will like that right?”
|
| |
Is a rerecording of a good album really this bad? Genuine question btw
|
| |
Should probably separate the remasters and the re-recordings. The re-recordings are quite terrible but the remasters are a nice update. I only listened to the first few tracks though, I'm assuming they don't make any compositional changes?

Yeah so the actual remaster of the original recordings ain't bad. The songwriting still rips and there are a few subtle touches in the new remaster that are cool BUT the re-recorded tracks are pretty fucking bad...And I like a lot of their more recent albums.

I’m not sure the tracks are actually remastered, unless randomly adding bass and muddying up the entire midrange because they are deaf old fucks counts as “remastering”.
I mean, is it even possible to “remaster” an album that Fredrik Nordström worked sound on?

This is not half as bad as people say, i listened to the new version of bullet ride, and then the original again and was surprised how kind of shit his vocals sounded the first time actually, id almost dare say they are better these days, theres more body in the guts of the heavier moments, i think his vocals have copped so much flak over the years that is so unwarranted.
Its this whole thing people got in their heads that he was trying to sound like Jonathan davis, he has managed to evoke so much feel in his vocals especially sountrack, come clarity albums. I prefer the original recordings because i heard them first, and i just like them better overall, but im not going to go on like these are so bad because im so offended by the concept of them re recording them in the first place that its blinding my perspective. These recordings are fine and like i said in some instances his vocals have more body, more melody - not a bad thing, if you prefer the originals like i do so be it.

| |
Soundtrack is the only album where I feel like he's kinda trying out his Jonathan Davis impression at parts. Glad he dropped that and developed his own style for better or worse after that
That said, I don't think his harsh vocals are bad here and I don't think that's what most people are complaining about

Yeah well evil in the closet off that album for me is brilliant vocals the way he sings that line need an option, a reason, and some hope, the last hope especially he conveys so much desperation and yearning, i think its brilliant.
Yeah i think it just shows how pigeon holed and insular metal heads can be, more than any other genre generally in the music world.
You dont have to like it, but how so many cop it as a personal insult. I get it we are passionate. Im no less, but i think perspective is lost sometimes.
|
| |
I dont know. I don't have a passionate hate for any albums I dislike. I just move on with my life. There's plenty of music out there.
That said, if you're re-recording a classic album like this, you're bound to ruffle some feathers. I think a lot of the criticisms I've seen are pretty legitimate. It's all subjective but I feel like the originals are far more powerful and authentic. The modern production sterilizes it, the mix is off, and the newly added cleans dont work well imo. If this introduces their newer fans to some of their older work though then that's great

The re recorded songs are so bad. The remaster mix brings the drums more to the forefront but the new mix is just to clean and takes away a lot of the edge the original record had.
|
| |
Still say the re-recordings and remasters should be two different entries under this band's Compilations
|
| |
Remasters alone aren't really worth making an entry for
|
| |
That happens all the time though. Cynic's Traced in Air Remixed, You Fail Me Redux, Kezia Remaster...
|
| |
the remasters and rerecordings were released together and should be in the database as such
I also owe anyone who cares an unironic apology for not reviewing the remasters here
|
| |
Why polish something that's already perfect as can be? I can't bare to listen to this.
