one of those few albums in my lifetime where it brings me back 15 years being in love with their sound yet they grew up with me and our pleasure for sludgier tones all of this time

incredible

Probably the best come back album, period. Probably a 5 too, Jesus. The sludgy tonality and pacing updates it, but the way they layer and intertwine the guitar lines for spaced out ambiance is vintage Downward.

Yeah, that’s confirmed - definitely better than their 90s stuff

Guitar sound is meatier here and the vocals are less weedy also.

90s albums sounded like they cost 200 bucks to record

Interesting take, Doof. Not a big fan of Downward? This is amazing though. Might have to bump it.

The 90s albums are ok but then you put on Loveless or Siamese Dream and it’s goodnight lads

I can cope with Jimmy Chamberlain being ten times the drummer, Corgan being ten times the guitarist and writer, I can take the Butch Vig production being ten time’s better...it’s when I realise Billy is ten times the singer I have a few reservations over this band

This album addresses most of the faults though

"it’s when I realise Billy is ten times the singer I have a few reservations over this band"
haha cannot fault that logic, much as DiH is better than either of those albums (Loveless is a weird one to argue either way but the Pumpkins got beat p squarely at their own game)

I go the route where I see all of them as classics and call it a day.

I agree with Doof, Siamese is better than Downward but hey they both rock.

I was about to say, I’d compare em to Failure over the Pumpkins

and this does have some Torche-y moments, makes me love it more

Musically they sound a lot like the Pumpkins at times. Something about the soaring lead guitar‘s tone.

Vocally not so much - vocals are basically a blank.

This one sounds a bit like Loveless in places.
