I’ll say this about August Burns Red: they're the best band ever to grace the Pennsylvanian metalcore scene named "August Burns Red"

I dont get anyone saying this is a shit review. I can understand some people saying there is bias in the review, but there is always going to be bias in a review even if its trace amounts. August burns red may be a consistent band, great but whats the point in maintaining consistency if there is no attempts at larger changes or evolution on the sound even if it doesnt always work.
How many times can people write reviews on "August burns
red does August burns red things". Architects have been heading in the same direction since Lf//Lt releasing extremely similar sounding records. Parkway whilst their change is awful, at least they are trying to head in a new direction.
All the power to everyone who enjoys the music though.

I can understand rating this super low largely because of their refusal to change. I was getting tired of this sound two albums ago, and at this point it doesn't matter to me that this is well written metalcore. I spun this album one time and got all I was going to get out of it, which was very little. I don't remember any specific moments. It's just an ABR album that sounds like an ABR album, from the guitar tone and tuning to the mix, it's all just a blend of "ABR sounds" that my brain can't be bothered to care about any more. I have this rated pretty low and I'm actually a huge fan of this band. If you weren't all that big on them to begin with I can easily see how this could be rated as low as Nocte has it.

Ah, hope remains. Much love guys.
All I want to see is some wholesome discussion. You don't agree with me? Fine, tell me how.

The first few pages of this thread are great. The back and forth from Nocte and willie is an awesome discussion and breakdown of the review itself

I will not readily admit how many times I had to re-read pika's comment to get that haha

Personally, as much as I disagree with the rating, there's nothing particularly wrong about the review, and I definitely see the points as valid. I am a fan of ABR and this is ABR doing their normal thing (though not as good as they used to). First half of this album is very bland for me, but the second half from Dismembered on is really good, better than their past two records.

I do have some small love for that closer though. Seriously though, had the production on this been less soul sucking I would have almost slapped a 2.5/3 on it.

Yeah that makes sense. I'm not crazy critical on production as much as others are honestly, so that's generally not what I focus on. But yea, I'd agree that there is some lacking in the production here, leaves it pretty flat at times when I full mix could've pushed the track sounds to another level

the while she sleeps-esque vocals on whichever song that was were pretty cool tbh. the "harsh" cleans or whatever. I see them trying to branch out a little bit

this review spends so much time lambasting ABR for their lack of innovation when they have never been a band that's tried to be anything but what they are. one paragraph actually refers to performance issues by the band but the rest is literally the same idea -that they aren't innovative - repeated over and over again. kind of.... ironic, no?

ABR plays ABR songs.
That's an accurate review of every ABR record. There's been very little in the way of progress or growth from them for years. Not sure why anyone would be surprised by that.

How does that scenario even enter your mind

Space Jester - I agree with you. I used to overlook Thrill Seeker, but recently that album has quickly become one of my favorites from ABR. I really enjoy the technical and raw sound of Architects' Ruin and Nightmares. For that same reason, I really like Thrill Seeker.

This has a pretty good back half imo but it definitely feels like a wayyy too cleanly produced attempt at making Messengers in 2020. Its not necessarily unexpected but still a bit of a letdown, since they were still painting a fairly good streak by Phantom Anthem.
