Ok this just about blew my mind on most recent listen. Incredible, this might be my favorite album released since 2017.

It's knocking on my top 10
I actually still prefer the Clem Snide strangely, that's been the surprise of the year for me, his old stuff is decidedly meh

The Snide is very good but perhaps a bit too simple? I like it a lot but I found it revealed itself very quickly and didn’t have too much more to give. This I love more with every go.

This has peaked, it took a long time doing so for me (maybe 10 listens?) but will now level off
Snide is just a perfect little folk album, for it to succeed with just simplicity bodes well for it and future doof listens
In a way that's my AOTY so far...though I do rate 3 or 4 albums higher (Destroyer, Honey Harper, etc). It's maybe a personal favourite rather than a 'technical' champion
Definitely wins the 'Most Improved Artist' category, though the Baxter Dury scores high in that regard for me too

For comparison I have Clem Snide on a 84% rating on my AOTY account and this now sits on an 82% - so basically they're the same rating/two of my favourites of the year

Snide is def very listenable so I can see it being a sort of go-to spin. And it is great! Just doesn’t feel overly special like this or Honey Harper does. Snide is like 3.6-3.7 so it’s in my top 5-10ish of the year so far. Still a weak year imo but with some very good highlights.

I surmise you still haven't listened to my Shannen Moser rec ;) that album is one of the great lost gems of the 2010s

Never heard of that one

I only have five 5s from the 2010s and I'll Sing is one of them - I'm not sure if you'd dig it quite as much as I expect Boney would but I'd say it's an essential album for everyone who enjoys folk music to at least give a fair shake. Album grows considerably too
|
| |
Also I am on listen #7 and the stretch on "Emerald" from the final chorus onward has officially solidified itself as a "...fuk" moment

The drums on "Swim" are actually incredible. It totally hit me by surprise how they pulled that off considering the album's overall sound.

theBoneyKing loving this! I'm loving that! This album is fantastic. I love Cymbals Eat Guitars so much, and this could be in the discussion for my favorite Joey D release.
