she seems miserable live tbh, I'd never pay to see her. maybe at a festival or in like years where she has a fuckton of budget for shows and the frills and sparks of set, costumes and videos surpasses the mild quality of the actual live version of the music
babymetal is also embarassing but live the actual musicians are tight, the three girls are a fucking embarassing gimmick

babymetal's main vocal is insanely great live.
the video is only her part's audio during a live.
thinking of dancing at the same time, the pitch accuracy is just insane.

This reminds me of like if Sleigh Bells had really shitty deathcore and djent influences instead of like... cool noise rock ones. I think the gimmick is a pretty neat idea but you have to have like... substance. A gimmick can only take you but so far

So.
Might be seeing Poppy live in March folks.
I’ll let you know how that goes.

babymetal is way over the scope of being a band
it is an output of Japanese "idol culture" which dominates its pop music industry system.
a well-designed elite initially aimed at western countries' markets from the very beginning

Sounds ridiculously pretentious, won’t lie.

Nope, reasonably accurate. Idol is basically a more transparent form of label-driven "brand>music", or music + personality as a vehicle to market - applies quite neatly to Babymetal, who can be placed q easily in the idol landscape
Only seems pretentious because the western industry doesn't formally recognise its equivalents to idol as such and blurs the lines with 'regular' pop personas

Babymetal originated from this 'idol landscape', that fact has never been hidden. The question is, Who cares? As long as it's good. You people worry about too much shit that has nothing to do with the actual music.

"As long as it's good. You people worry about too much shit that has nothing to do with the actual music."
If you're only in it for the bangers, fair enough - but I think that misses a lot of the point. The Babymetal kawaii/metal sound is part of a wider brand, and I'd say the most interesting part of Babymetal is both the controversy they've stirred and the resonance they've hit on in certain listeners with said brand. Idol and metal is a straightforward gimmick as a musical intersection, but as a way to find common ground between two of the most notoriously tenacious fanbases in and out of music it's something else
"Yeah but whether or not babymetal is any good is debatable to say the least"
But of course

Whether any given band is good or not is always debatable based on music tastes. No arguments there.
@ Johnny: I am only into it 'for the bangers'. It goes the same for any music I listen to... the story behind the music makes no difference to me. It might make an interesting read for stuff I'm already into, but if I'm not into it, no backstory will change my mind.
