Unfortunately this has all the tropes of country I hate but none of the ones I love. Need more of that ethereal soaring guitar and less deep southern drawl.
Kansas was good tho

Has anyone heard the songs released from his Show Pony EP yet? "Summertime" is amazing.

this is better than i initially thought. still kinda bland songwriting-wise but the atmosphere is cool

I came around to it, too. I think this began as a 3.5 for me but his voice is just so uniquely haunting. He definitely has the potential to own the niche of "modern, queer, country outlaw".

yea i agree cole but the atmosphere/vocal performance makes up for a lot of it
that being said i don't know how long he can keep this up

Summertime is phenomenal (so is the music video). He also dropped a cover of "Smalltown Boy" by Bronski Beat (I didn't know it before) that is, I think, one of the best things he's released so far

I mean it's not like Turnpike Troubadours or old Johnny Cash or something but this definitely has that heartwarming southern croon to it. Definitely an amalgamation of influences though. Maybe some post punk, maybe shoegaze (idk about shoegaze as that's a genre I know little about but maybe?)

Also for those interested heres Orville Peck with Brad Leone from Bon Appetit and it's a beautiful thing to witness https://youtu.be/HkKfbA2mTN0

Fans of this might enjoy the new Holy Motors album Horse, has a very similar dreamy and atmospheric 'yeehaw' '80s inspired country sound. Femvox though there's a dude one a few songs who gives me Peck vibes.
