You're right Relinquished. With that said, Wikipedia (which is NEVER wrong, lol) identifies FKA Twigs as art pop and so did the first 2 or 3 reviews I clicked on for Magdalene. So what am I missing? Why isn't this art-pop?

"Art-pop" gets slapped on any female fronted album that slightly experiments. It's such a broad term at this point. So yes, this is art-pop, but also glitch-pop/alternative R&B
I was just saying it doesn't sound like Angel

I think the problem is the 'pop' half it, which is already nebulous of a term as it is.
is this 'artsy' cuz of the paper mache artwork? or cuz of how different it is from any previous standalone female artists that chart for just a week? sonically it's 'out of the norm' for when it plays on the radio, but the problem is that genre-taggers set themselves up for a trap. using old genre terms like "hard rock" or "alternative r&B" cuz they existed with small consensus to bring it forth to the internet before things got hyperconnected. now no one knows what to do cuz it'll likely not catch on. i don't know what the fuck "deconstructed club" is but if you round up enough artists with strands of similarity under the same umbrella you get a new genre like that.

Oh I agree this is nothing like Angel Olsen. I also agree that it qualifies as glitch pop and R&B. I just thought I read somewhere that it was unequivocally NOT art-pop, which is what I struggled to wrap my head around. I do agree that art pop is probably the laziest/broadest of the available descriptors, if only because it could apply to so many other artists. It'd be like calling an ambient folk album "indie".

“I haven’t yet worked out a negative connotation of being a boomer”
Same. These fucks haven’t got a clue how hard it was to be born post-war in the UK.
Victorian tenement slum with no inside toilet.
Polio and illness rife
Head kicked in by parents, siblings, teachers, bosses.
Born into insignificance as a result of not fighting in the war and being part of the ‘greatest generation’
Absolutely no concession whatsoever to ‘weakness’
Complete and utter reliance upon ones self to get out the shit.
Slags nowadays would not last 2 minutes living how they lived.
