this one has brutal parts too. It's more atmosphere-driven

listened to some and it just sounded like if the black dahlia murder tried to plagiarize gojira but missed the point

I don' like clean vocals in Deathcore or basically any kind of core band. FFAA does it ok, but I would prefer to not have any. Honestly, the only bands where I like the cleans are Bury Tomorrow and anything from Howard Jones. Yes; the latest Bury Tomorrow album fucking rules. Listening to the latest As I Lay Dying for example, that is just cringing when those clean American high school vocals begin. I just cannot listen to their new record because of them. It's strange because AILD had pretty good clean vocals up until An Ocean Between Us. It is a small difference between a clean vocal with added value (listening to a band like Diablo, except their latest effort Silver Horizon) or it becoming this whiny gay-isch pop-rock.
Further, incorporating clean vocals is a slippery slope imo and FFAA are balancing the line with the cleans on their last album, already a little on the wrong side of the line. I expect their next album to start sucking.
Still, FFAA kicks ass. Seeing them live blew my mind. I've listened to this album quite a lot now and I don't think it is better than The Great Collapse. But I have grown (36yo) to expect nothing from new albums from any of my favourite band, as basically 9 out of 9 times it is a let-down. This album is solid. I prefer the more chuggy groovy mosh vibe from TGC, but the latest release is still a solid album.
Personally I am a big fan of Gojira, where the latest album is my least favourite, and I was hoping FFAA would evolve more into a Gojira ripoff with Deathcore vocals, I would have been perfectly fine with that. I don't mind bands ripping of other bands' sound, as long as they do it correct. FFAA did it very correct on TGC.
For me FFAA shows how much potential there still is in the Deathcore scene to incorporate some good metal vibes. Stealing from Gojira is never a bad thing. Maybe I don't know the right Deathcore bands. But listening to Thy Art Is Murder and the many copies does not really do it for me.
Anyway, so much for this rant. 4 out 5 for me

idk... The Great Collapse is the only album of theirs (minus the first one) that I just find kind of boring. This album follows a similar template but for some reason I find the melodies and riffs a lot more memorable and effective here.
I'm pumped to see them live next week though. The only thing I'm not stoked about is they're playing 6 songs from TGC and only 5 from this one? And the only song they play from Hellbound (my fav FFAA album) live anymore is one of my least favorite tracks on there, ha.
Whatever it's still gonna rip

Title track rips. The rest of it is pretty good. Might end up bumping down to a 3 or 3.5, but the title track was a pleasant surprise.
