I don't want this to be heavier, although the guitars are sometimes way too low in the mix compared to the vocals/synths. I think the tracks will be very nice to hear in a live setting

This is post rocky? Haven't listened so i'm curious

Well, Distant Bells is a more ambient/post rocky track. The whole album has this restrained attitude I consider to be post rocky, but it's quite diverse nevertheless. I mean, Alleviate is straight up pop song, Foreigner is balls to the wall heavy. The constant here is everything being centered aroundEinars vocals.

"Einar says, "We decided..." and the guitarist corrects him and says, "He decided. We were informed..." or something like that."
They were talking about on The Sky is Red, Einar hired a full choir for that song. I actually think the band is okay with this, it seemed like they like the idea of doing some different stuff, but if they don't get back to doing more traditional Leprous stuff I could see that causing some tension. I know the drummer is very into what Leprous is doing.

It's good they're shaking things up though. As much as I love Malina and The Congregation, these albums got just a tad too samey. I couldn't see them continuing with staccato riffs and soaring choruses

This is good.

Ah ok kalk, i thought they were actually going for lots of tremolo soundscapes and build-ups/crescendos like those typically found in a lot of post rock bands

Well, Distant Bells is kind of like that, but it's not the general direction of this

Listening now
I can't tell if this is gonna end up cool like Radiohead for me...or terribad like Muse...or something in the middle like Steven Wilson

The vocals towards the end of at the bottom are ABSURD

I prefer Einar over Ihsahn's instrumentation tbh. This is weak on that front.
Overall, still alright I guess. I liked how they stripped the pretensions of being a rock band tbh. This feels more true to what I've always got from them. A vehicle for Einar.

70% of this album I'd label 'art pop' if that means anything to anyone

Uhh this is kinda like if Leprous and Muse had a baby, and I'm here for it

I dig it. It’s their worst album, but they’ve set the bar rather high. I’m coming at it with a veil of ignorance (as best as I can) because they shouldn’t be pigeonholed as a prog band. It’s unique, I dig the synth, and Einar shines.
If this is their only album like this, it’s a good add to their discography. If this is setting them up to be prog pop for the next few albums, I’ll be disappointed.

From the comments in this thread I'm getting the feeling I probably would prefer this to their usual material maybe :/
