And everyone has a heart and it's calling for something
We're all so sick and tired of seeing things as they are
Horses are just horses and their manes aren't full of fire
The fields are just fields, and there ain't no Lord
And everyone is hidden, and everyone is cruel
And there's no shortage of tyrants, and no shortage of fools
And the little white shape dancing at the end of the hall
Is just a wish that time can't dissolve at all

Lowered my rating for this one - not feeling it as much.

A 5? Not for me, chief. But as I listened I was convinced this would be received very positively. Hollywood might be a five though. Extra points for getting positive reception without the tragedy crutch that propped up the last one, at least lol.

Also, I’m way late, but Sowing you are 1,000,000,000% sleeping on no More Shall We Part if it isn’t in your top 3 Cave albums.

I’m a massive Nick Cave fan. Easily the greatest live performance I’ve ever seen. I own most of his albums, Push the Sky Away is a fantastic album.
Two songs into this and I can’t listen to this.
Skeleton Tree was the greatest album I never want to hear again and this is sounding like more of the same.
He just sounds completely crushed on these albums. They’re not songs, they’re therapy sesssions. I’m glad people are enjoying and discovering his stuff, but these albums aren’t for me.

At least jam the last song, because it owns. Shame they (whoever even has credits on this album (because this could easily have just been Cave and Ellis)) took the rest of the album to to warm up for one song.
Idk why people are relating this to Skeleton Tree. Sure, the first song isn't far off in a compositional sense and lyrically the album isn't exactly uplifting, but the overall feeling of this, at least soundwise, is bright and serene- a complete change from Skeleton Tree. Skeleton Tree feels like unrest and this feels like closer to being at peace. Still, though I'd call them very different, it is looking like I'll likely settle on a 3/5 for both, but it's too early to tell.

I'm feeling a light 1.435 on this one.

"Idk why people are relating this to Skeleton Tree"
For the reasons you just stated, probably. Structurally and lyrically, there's a ton of overlap. The tone is definitely brighter though, as you stated, and I clearly agree with you as I highlighted that key difference in detail during my review.

Kind of reminds me of the more spiritual moments in the ape of naples.

I've decided that every song here is amazing. Even the spoken track.

No more shall we part, Henry's dream, push the sky away, boatman's call and murder ballads are all superb. Skeleton tree and let love in are massive overrated. This I'm not sure about yet. I might lower to a 3.5 or maybe even raise to 4.5, need a couple more spins.

Boatman's is probably his most overrated imo, No More improved on that one vastly

Skeleton Tree bored me to tears. I respect it, but this is monumentally better

Yeah agreed hard. Skeleton tree is incredibly weak by comparison. I need you is the only song I bothered to keep. Jesus alone is a contender for worst bad seeds song

Girl in Amber, Magneto and the T/T are at least as good as anything on this though?
Odd take

Skeleton Tree is brilliant and more digestible than this.
This is about even, or maybe slightly better, as a whole but mainly because of the lyrics not the music IMO.

I used to think Girl in amber was great but after a couple listens I was sick of hearing it. Title track is good but there are several songs here better than it. Feels like any time an artist is influenced by the loss of someone close to them everyone heralds the album as a masterpiece. Skeleton tree sounds passable but pretty boring compared to their other material.

ST Is definitely not among their best, for sure

This has its duds too. Can't stand waiting for you or leviathan, really annoying hooks in those, but galleon ship, bright horses, spinning song, fireflies and hollywood are top tier
