Loved Reclaimer, still spinning it every now and then. I'm excited to get this, my mind will be blown if they did indeed top their last album.

Barren and Breathless Macrocosm is the only song on here I didn't particularly care for... Also the old version of Sullen Moon was better imo. Other than that this fucks.

As if they care what lowly little me thinks haha. KsE is a 2.9 anyways ; ]

I should clarify on Melancholy's behalf though. I see a world of potential here but I feel like these guys threw all their eggs in this basket and rushed to push out every idea all at one. I don't particularly enjoy the cringe-y half clean, yelled vocals and I'm having a saturation problem with the album. Everything is dialed to 12 (which is probably half the point) but apart from the riff punches, the bass is more-or-less buried and the tone of the guitars doesn't add anything dynamically to the album. It's like they asked each other how they wanted to write an album and all they could come up with was 'yes'.

I also have a few issues with some clanza closing lyric choices. I understand that lyrics aren't going to be the most intellectual but that doesn't really mean it's going to get a free pass for it. The orchestral touches also have me 50/50. Sometimes they're on point, a lot of the time they drip cheese.

Haha I guess most of us are dumb then. Who knows, this might fall to a measly 4.5 for me :D

Just surprised you like Atonement more lol, but I appreciate you substantiating your rating. For me, the overwhelming atmosphere is divine as is the vocal performance, though I can see people not digging the cleans and cheesy elements. The lyrics are more than serviceable, but yeah, I wouldn't set my expectations too high.

Just surprised you like Atonement more lol,

some of the contrib team were discussing this last night (or day? we're all in different timezones) and in all honesty I was torn between a 2 and a 4 but didn't just want to cop-out and slap a 3 on it. I actually wanted to justify how this album measures into my rating scale and this is basically where it ended up. As for a lasting value (and an eventual re-evaluation down the track) I don't see this dropping any lower if that helps.

No worries man, I don't mind lol, especially if your rating is genuine. I don't think I've ever had to decide between anything more than a .5 increment, but I can understand the factors that would have people decide between a broader range.

'The bass is buried more or less' no-no-nonono-no-no, the bass here is the most prominent ide argue it's ever been in a deathcore album, I can pick out the bass in basically every section with ease

'Why dont they just end the album with dreaded mystic abyss'

Yeah this is a great point, it does seem like the closer tbh, I wish more elements of that song where incorporated in the rest of the album

It just messes it up ending with a "regular" song after that

You either put such a track right in the middle of the album or as the last song. Awesome album and all, but that decision I will probably never forgive

Actually when reading the lyrics it makes sense Malediction is the last track, just due to the story, it's a dark ending, but a fitting one nonetheless

Yea, dont really care about the story. Dreaded mystic abyss doesn't really add anything story-wise, so why not put it last anyway? Doesn't really matter, just seems like a crazy decision to me and it definitely gonna lower my ranking by .5

"Melancholy is to 2019 what Where Owls Know My Name was to 2018 for me."

Well, that doesn't bode well.
