There's definitely some darker lyrical content here - this album is pretty

Yeah that might be my favorite here. It's between that or Army I think.

@Gyro - It's def purposely quiet & minimal, but doesn't lose any of that Black Mile magic IMO. And I know that even though some people don't like Kevin Devine, I think he brings it here. If you look at the songwriting credits, some of the very best moments here were by his design.

sowing: maybe it just takes some getting used to. kishi bashi was immediate for me. so many gorgeous melodies to latch onto and a lot of variety. i would say this is certainly much closer to tallest man, which has proven to be quite the grower (for me).

edit: this is a late reply to what you said a page ago lol

Hawks I don't know how much you'd dig this sort of minimal indie-folk, but let me know what you think anyway!

I don't know how it slipped by me all these years that Hull and Devine have a project together but I'm very glad to be aware of it now

on first listen this is a strong possible AOTY contender

I've known about this project since its inception but I can honestly say this is the first time it's really impressed me

The other two albums are good, but by comparison this is a revelation

Surprised the first two weren’t very good (apparently — I haven’t heard them) considering the talent involved. Looks like they’re now finding their footing together. The next album might be phenomenal.

First listen was really promising. There are some amazing highs but it'll need a couple more spins to click.

I think the first two are still good - just not on this level.

Lucman what were the early standouts?
