Haha, I'm surprised at your resistance to this method. It's as if you think he's going to forget hearing this. He already said he digs it. Why not just go in reverse from here?

because its vastly more interesting to hear a project evolve into its final manifestation than it is to ruin that magic via devolution, ur basically telling a dude who just watched star wars episode 8 to now watch episode 7 and then 6 instead of a new hope and onwards like way to fucking SPOIL. EVERYTHING.

devolution isnt an adequate term tho considering his early stuff is absolute pinnacle of breaks/trip hop/d&b

where's the payoff once you reach PEAK PERFORMANCE and then lower the settings to baby strengths

Idk if this and Star Wars is directly comparable. He said he likes the sound, and wants something similar. I get that. So, I'm not going to say start from the beginning. Each album has it's own magic... and not everyone has to start at the same place to find it.

If someone's only heard this and wants to hear more, I don't see the harm in going to Isam and then Foley Room since the three basically make up the third phase of Amon Tobins discog. Then I'd say go to the beginning once you're familiar with those three and listen chronologically. Don't forget Adventures in Foam just because it's under a different name.

it's one thing to recommend the most similar works. it's another to start with the best and end with the worst. Tobin's so consistent you can jump wherever, but I don't recommend regressive musical journeys which was the whole fluff that we're buffing out.

I was saying that if you hear an album late in an artist's discog before any other and dig it... there's nothing wrong with going in reverse.
