I disagree. This has little to nothing to do with Rolo while some of the riffs/slams scream Code Orange. I mean, c'mon, I can't be the only one that sees it.

Yeah, if you give it enough chances you may get more close to Rolo than actually Code Orange. There's a really nice way to work melody on all tracks. The "Code Orange like" sort of beatdown was a bit distracting on first listens, but there's more underneath. And hey! I'm one of the few sputs that actually digs Code Orange (see first page on thread) and I don't mind. Plus the main thing pointed out on Code Orange is that extra electronic glitchy thing that you don't find here. And also, yap guitars are way more mathy as well. Vein is more Code Orange than this f.e.

Code orange and vein have a lot more in common with each other than they do this

agreed. As I said it was a dissipated initial impression for me.

I am definitely not getting the Rolo vibes either. We've hit a dead end.

I don’t see this bumping for me, it devolves into open note choppy metalcore breakdowns too often and the drummer is an absolute conundrum. It’s like at times they are dead on and tight and well written and other times it sounds like the drummer is barely hanging onto the tempo (and it’s usually during slower sections early in the album, which makes it even more strange.) but then when they go all out like the closer it’s like REALLY good. Idk we’ll just have to see what they do next!

Every time I hear Impulse Crush I'm reminded how good the mix on this album is. Everything just has so much punch without sacrificing the low end.

breakdowns using chugging and higher pitched half step dissonance have been a thing in metalcore since botch and probably earlier, code orange is just the latest big band to incorporate that into their sound. these guys do seem to use it as a crutch in their songwriting but there are plenty of good riffs and breakdowns to distract from that
