To be clear, I think the majority of users on sputnik are absolutely willing to read a review and discuss the content of the review itself beyond the score. Probably more so than any other site I've ever been to. Whether people agree or not, I just find a discussion about the content of a review or the music itself to be much more engaging and useful.

AFI is one of those bands that people will always argue over. "They suck!" "They were only good in their punk days!" etc etc

They went from punk/hardcore to retro synth-pop so it's naturally gonna be polarizing.

Everything since Crash Love has been heavily influenced by The Cure and other 80's synth pop. Most of their punk fans don't overlap with that stuff. Did I use the wrong term? 80's synth pop sounds pretty retro to me but then I'm a millennial...

They have had heavy influence from The Cure since STS tho...

But they still had the screamed vocals and emo thing going on. I don't hear much Cure on STS tbh, and only a little bit on DU. After that they leaned more and more in that direction though.

I'm almost fully confident in thinking both Break Angels and Back Into The Sun are better than everything on both Blood and Burials and are some of my favorite AFI tracks.

When I jam this I usually like to let it loop once or twice and pretend it’s a new LP release instead : (
