nothing these guys say is wrong, but it’s all so fucking banal, not to mention sounding like it’s coming off the lips of vicarious sufferers..

Samaritans in particular is definitely going for more of a shotgun blast approach- forceful and scattershot. They're throwing loads of empty 'be a real man' platitudes at the listener and the message is pretty clear.

that's my fav, it's effective like you described. problem with this record is that for a politically/socially conscious one there's nothing that makes me reconsider

I find the politics dumb but I still love the lyrics
Similarly, I’m not pro-raping the corpses of pregnant women but there are some slam bands who can turn the formula into something entertaining

there’s not an awful lot of prose to the lyrics but the delivery is fun as hell
|
| |
the lyrics on June feel sorta cheap though; 'baby shoes for sale: never worn' for example, not the most original writing
instrumentally gorgeous tho

yeah and that’s made worse by the repetition, it insists upon itself, weakest track for me. but I love the delivery of “you’re not suave cos you watch get cartah, you are a catalogue” and “this snowflake’s an avalanche” and the whole of danny nedelko. could drop to a 4 at worst for me
|
| |
yeah, there's a lotta really loveable delivery's on this one. even on some of the songs that didn't grip me too much to start with, there were particular lines which pushed them up a notch of appreciation e.g. 'you're like a gun or a knife, be my wife'
think this could be maybe possibly perhaps better than brutalism, if not just because of the increased variety throughout - mybe a 4

My wife can be like a knife, wish I had a gun.

"the lyrics on June feel sorta cheap though; 'baby shoes for sale: never worn' for example, not the most original writing"
Not the most original writing indeed, because it's a reference to Hemingway and flash fiction. The song is about an incredibly dark, painful subject, so I think the minimal, repetitive lyrics are fitting. This album has touches of Swans and Nick Cave styling, but especially Sleaford Mods, especially with the politics.
