The transitions here are one of my favorite parts. Such a smooth listen.

This album needs a bit more grit.

(Also 2018 is at least as good as 2017 in terms of music and you ppl. are negative nancies)

Maybe it's just me for not actually finding as much good stuff as I did last year, but the 2018 charts on my end are littered with 2.5's and 3's. Last year, to me, was much better with that.

2017 destroys 2018 for me, but it's in large part because 3 of my biggest fanboy bands (Brand New, Manchester Orchestra, Fleet Foxes) all released LPs.

Giving this a shot, and it's definitely pretty, but I find this kind of shimmery Americana grows tiresome after more than a song or two. Hopefully this bucks that trend — at least it's got more energy than The War on Drugs, a band whose popularity I will never understand.

also 2017 was a great year but it was kind of top-heavy. 2018 has fewer 5/5 albums but way more 4+s for me so far

^^^I agree with everything you said, down to the letter

This did not grow tiresome to me, at least not yet. Holding strong as a 4.5.

Lake Erie and the t/t are just such a good one-two punch that the rest of the album can't hope to live up to

I think having listened to this and a fair amount of War on Drugs in the past, this style of music is just a little samey and dull to me. Looking like i'm in the minority though!

This is indeed incredibly smooth, perhaps to a fault at times

Very nice. First listen or two was kind of indifferent but a definite grower.

that last patagraph is v accurate. This is just so damn nice to listen to... the guitar bits from title track and civility at gunpoint are so pleasant

they're definitely similar atmospherically...just enough variation for me though, songs like Jewels and the t/t go through multiple transformations.
