Anyway I don't like this band much but at least I can appreciate that they put a lot of effort into the concept and how they release the records. I used to think this band was full of morons (based on some interviews I saw) but it seems they've matured a bit.
It's fucked up because I like them more as people now but the music sucks and was better when they were immature back in the early to mid 2000's.

I met them all a few years ago along with Devin Townsend - they're super cool dudes in real life also, glad I met them recently I guess aha

Oh man, The Proverbial Bellow might overtake Specular Reflection as my fav btbam song
I keep discovering new parts I love every time I listen to it

Saw all the positive buzz about Part I and was severely disappointed with it. Colors was as far as I wanted to see this band go in the prog geek metal direction. Nothing tops Alaska BTBAM for me (shitty as the production on that album is).

"treb have you even heard colors and alaska tho? "

^ don't care.
@ins I'd like to like automata but I really really do not. auto I & II to me are the worst prog "metal" has to offer. and with this last release it's official, BTBAM is now their generation's Dream Theatre and that is not a compliment.

Maybe you'd wanna try and at least get the name of the band you're (poorly) attempting to shit on correct, hmm?

"BTBAM is now their generation's Dream Theatre"
In the sense that they're better than people give them credit for? Nice

Something else the Automata albums have done is make Parallax II look even better. I think this band does metalcore better than the prog stuff they're doing now, not that this is bad or anything just maybe a bit less focused and chaotic than I'd like. On the other hand we don't really need more of their old stuff, so maybe this direction is good for them. My final word on Automata I+II is that I'm happy they exist because they're really well produced and riddled with powerful moments.

100% percent they do the metalcore better then this poor attempt at prog.

I mean Colors was the perfect blend of both with parallax not too far behind imo so I dunno
Fucking way better than something like their first album, for example

@tyrael correcting people's spelling on the internet means you are gay
@kalwise no this band is like dream theater in the sense that they're the preeminent yet lame prog "metal" band of the generation. it should be pretty clear since theyve been splitting albums in halves and writing nothing but concept albums that have only gotten worse since 2011. just like dream theater. now fuck off
