New one is definitely better than this. Time will tell how it compares to Pure Comedy and Honeybear, but I definitely feel it's a strong addition to his discography.

I’m kind of meh on it on first listen. It feels like the kind of thing where the individual songs are fine on their own but as a whole it gets tiring. The closer is the only genuinely interesting song.

It's like FJM makes a Michael Buble album that's actually good

"So I'm Growing Old on Magic Mountain" is still best Misty song ever

Not sure I disagree Neeka, also The Magic Mountain is one of my favorite books ever, so there's that!

New one didn't do much for me at first (although Goodbye Mr. Blue is fantastic), but I've never been a huge fan outside of select few songs.

Mr. Blue was maybe my favorite on first go tbh

Goodbye Mr. Blue does kinda go on and on (although that seems to be the case with most of his recent songs), but I like the melody and found it pretty emotionally impactful, which is all I really need for this type of music

Mr. Blue is the “Everybody’s Talkin at me” song without a great melody tho

Worst album of the year contender for me - bland, generic, plays 100% against the artists strengths…and the closer shows he can be good but it feels almost an insult after the sub-Bublé patter that came before

Naff, makes ‘Pure Comedy’ seem like ‘Ok Computer’ by comparison I’m sorry - pure desperate money spinner, might as well have released a Christmas album, would have been more dignified

Twice. It sucks to holy hell.

This album was pretty much a sign saying ‘the well is dry’ tbh - he turned down Desperation Alley

Way to pick one song from a double album

New FJM is Muzak bro, genre pastiche through and through, hasn’t an original vocal melody or lyric, dudes cannibalising himself and every other fucker

“She’s a socialite, uh she shoplifts, (oooh)” ya don’t say John, tell me more (actually don’t)

It’s on the list. It’ll be better than this.

For an artist who built his name on lyrics this new one is so lacking.
