I personally liked Threat to Survival, feel like it got more slack than it deserved...
Either way, this is nowhere near as good as The Sound of Madness. I've been listening to it for the past few days and my score feels like being nice, might be a 3 for me over time.. will keep it on repeat

>I'd say the same thing for the new Sevendust album
Wait, Sevendust still makes music?

I was never a fan of Sevendust. I'm just surprised they're still around.

People say I shouldn't expect good lyrics here, but lyrics are a fundamental part of what makes music great for me. If lyrics are silly, or worse boring, it's a pretty significant flaw.
I loved Leave a Whisper and Sound of Madness, but if Shinedown isn't going to grow or expand their sound, then it's time to move on.

Yeah I'm a huge lyrics guy too. I think over time I've just come to accept that bands like Shinedown are more about the nostalgia for me.
But most of the time the lyrics are key.

do they do the drum driven thing a lot like in threat or is it guitar rock again?

I'm not against your score on this SowingSeason, it's fair, but I find it hard to believe that you like this one better than sound of madness

Asura has a point there.

I don't actually. I originally reviewed SoM at a 3.5 but I think I have it at a 4.5 or something now

I originally gave SoM a 3. I might raise it to a 3.5. I'm still iffy on it.

I'm perfectly fine with that. My standards are a bit much as well.

I'm gonna have to give this more time but it didn't leave much of an impression when I spun it the other day; the back end had the odd gem, but the first few songs sounded ever so slightly like Twenty One Pilots circa Blurryface tried to go hard rock and ditched their clever songwriting in the process.
If this really is Shinedown's best since The Sound of Madness (which is a near-classic for me) then maybe it was for the best that I skipped the two albums between that one and this...

Heh. You're in for a rude awakening.

I'm kinda wondering if my adoration for Shinedown's first three albums is driven primarily by nostalgia - I got into them at a time when mainstream rock still comprised a decent portion of my listening habits, whereas this album didn't have that benefit and neither will Amaryllis nor Threat to Survival.
Then again, Us and Them grew on me even as my tastes expanded and diversified, so who knows?
