@Clumseee - Agreed, if they reserved a few tracks for a wall of sound theatrical direction then I'd be very receptive, but a whole album worth of those type of songs just starts to grate on me. I still haven't listened to this yet so I'll reserve judgement until after I do.

soupy is holding the band back at this point
there's the bones of some good rock n roll songs here and then he comes out and does his usual dramatic yelly/crying thing and it's like aiite dude damn here we go again i guess

Yes I am, but they don't do much for me

Fair. I don't think they're nearly as affecting as some contemporaries like Brand New or the Hotelier, but I think they're putting out better material than bands like The Story So Far or Moose Blood (shudders) could ever dream of.

Do we all agree that the front half is superior?

That production is awful, but the songs are pretty great
edit: This is from listening to that stream on Independent

Not loving this on first listen. Think it's alright but production doesn't help it. NCTH was a grower for me especially after seeing some of it live, so hopefully this will be as well.

Unfortunately the stream production is the real production. It's close to ruining this for me, and TWY are like a top 5 band. It's barely listenable wtf

Raining in Kyoto is the worst victim of the production which was really weird on my first listen to the V0 leak, I thought that the bitrate had fucked up or something but it's just not produced that well.

The production on No Closer to Heaven wasn't any better, either.
Also Soupy as a vocalist is one of the few things keeping this band from suffering the same mediocre hang ups of every one of their lame contemporaries. (i guess their songwriting usually helps, too)

This record is fuego. Apart from the great instrumentation, I don't feel exhausted when listening to soupy sings. The sounds are more patient and controlled.
