They sorta went a little more upbeat on this and I'm starting to feel like that was a mistake

I definitely think it's a grower if you're not fond of the style. But I d'no, sometimes albums just don't click with people

This is definitely more upbeat than Keep You. Album to album, I think I prefer Keep You due to the slow nature etc, but this is still incredible I think.

yeah I've tried to listen to more music as it comes out these days but I keep finding myself just returning to Typhoon and Son Lux, little else is grabbing me from 2018

I'm listening to the new Senses Fail right now and it's kinda awful so far, but I've never liked that band much.

Okay I don't want to hear that bullshit argument about "not accepting a change in style"

I respect it, as I think everyone else does, but that does not mean we HAVE to like it. Conversely, they do not HAVE to conform to what we want.

It's all about holding and accepting opinions

"Okay I don't want to hear that bullshit argument about "not accepting a change in style""

I think that's more or less about the people who keep complaining about the lack of screams and the like.

yeah lack of screams isn't the problem here, it's the lack of variety/dynamics

I think people have a right to say that. Especially since without them the delivery lacks the raw emotion that characterized their earlier output, which was part of the appeal. But that's just one factor out of multiple

But in turn, they've all gotten older. I'm sure he doesn't want to keep writing about death and the like, I'm sure he's tired of drudging all of that up. This album is about love and every sense of the word, love to his family, love to his friends, love to his wife, and mostly, love to his newborn child. And so in turn, the music takes a page from that. I take this album in that context, the days of depressing PBTT are probably behind us, let us embrace this dude's love that he's trying to convey to us.
