I dont listen to these guys much anymore but Congratulations I loved more than the debut growing up and I still feel like it holds up unlike the debut. Congratulations showed them going much more all out with the psychedelia while still grounding themselves unlike the albums after it up until this one came out.

Cool I'll try to give it a chance. Sounds promising.

Congratulations is the band's best album imo, balances the prog rock/psychedelic weirdness of s/t while still being catchy like Oracular Spectacular. Flash Delirium was my fav MGMT song until they released In the Afternoon a couple months back

I feel bad for anyone who doesn't get earworms from Congratulations tbh. The songs on there do occasionally pop into my head

Congratulations is such a forgettable record. Only thing that I remember liking about it was certain segments of Siberian Breaks

I dig this and the debut though. Never checked the self-titled, on account of that lame first single

Congratulations is fucking brilliant. Their only low point was the self-titled album, but it was still decent (albeit extremely inconsistent).

I think with Congratulations they spent so long fiddling about in the studio to achieve that echoing 60s psych sound that they forgot to write any songs

I mean if you're going to deliberate snub earworm melodies (the debut's greatest strength), at least include something memorable in its stead. Congratulations is like a vegetarian spaghetti bolognese where you took out the mince and just didn't replace it with anything

Great review, and I agree. This is by far their best album. Their two new songs, In the Afternoon and Move Through the World, are great too.

Oracular Spectacular is good, mainly on the strengths of the singles; the s/t is just bad, and Congratulations is pretty middle-of-the-road aside from a couple good songs and the excellent Siberian Breaks. I like the atmosphere and mood Congratulations goes for though, it just doesn't fully work.
