I really am getting used to this new direction, and really love the title track.

Not as good as Of Beauty and Rage by a long shot, but this is one of my favorite bands, and it's a great album imo. It's a grower, though.

Of Beauty and Rage is awesome as well, but I feel this album is much more consistent and isn't hit with some of the awkward production choices like on Of Beauty and Rage (some of the vocal hooks are off and the guitar tone is a little muffled), but the highs on that album also reach higher than the highs on here. Like I said, this album is Release the Panic done properly.

Considering giving this a review.

"really am getting used to this new direction, and really love the title track."
honestly, if they keep going in this direction they'll be just Starset 2.0, a band that was already similar to them in the first place, and that's not a good thing at all.

Weird seeing them stylized on the site now as Red (USA)

It is a bit odd.
And sweet dig Pistol.

I am indeed disappointed with this score.

I think it's about where it should be, but yes disappointing.
@RogueNine: I'm obsessed with their album from last year, it's so good. Also...if you give "In the Absence of Truth" more time, you'll be astonished how fast that 3 rating you have will change to a 4.5 or above. It did for me, but it took like a year to sink in.

Idk man, I've been back to it over the years and it always sounds like it needs....something. Can't put my finger on it. It's not bad though.
|

Which reminds me, I still haven't listened to this. Heh. Just avoiding the disappointment now.

I was gonna ask....I thought you said you liked Red, yet no rating for this lol? Just get it over with man, I can tell you straight up you'll like at least SOME of it.

yeah I'm still disappointed in this, I might actually bump down
they were really close to finally getting back on track on the last album, it just needed to be cut down by like 20 minutes

I think I may have been wrong about this record. Decided to return to it again after having a bit of a Starset binge and I liked it a lot more than I did when I first heard it. Guess I really am a sucker for the electro/rock sound they, and Starset, go for.

it's not, and I had a lot of problems with that record

This was produced far better, the songs have clear focus, etc
I loved Of Beauty and Rage's return to Red's older style and the more dramatic approach it took, but the unevenness of Michael's vocals / the awkward occasionally songwriting keeps it at the same rating as this album instead of the 5 I very desperately wanted to give both albums.

I still like Of Beauty & Rage better overall, but this one's grown on me a bit.

I like OBAR too but agree that this is a more focused project.

This album would be a hard 5 if every song was like "Losing Control"
