I’m recalling all the flack that beck got for putting out morning phase. Boring… wheres the pop… whens he gonna do another odelay… etc. people are always gonna bitch.



And maybe this is a 4, not a 4.5. I was just trying to compensate for some of the ridiculously low ratings from the hipster rank. But lets be honest, exceptional pop records are really hard to pull off. Its like high definition camera pore diving, all the flaws are magnified.



I picked up the vinyl edition which includes high res WAV files and I have to say the production is absolutely stunning. Having the high res version makes a huge difference. (I think exy has them if you are inclined) If he wanted to push the envelope, he could release at least 5 singles. It really is that good. I’m so free, Dreams, WOW will all be live show stompers for years to come. And thats a fact. Somebody mentioned Dear Life, thats another instant classic. Yeah go ahead an bitch… Elliot Smith…blah blah (its dna really points to hey bulldog/lady madonna)



I do have a few peeves. Opening the album with pan flute is a crime. That in itself could be the reason for all the angst. The track itself isn’t that bad but I certainly would have moved it to the second half of the playlist. Also he sat on the records for way to long. But he made it the old fashioned way with real people and instruments…somewhat of an anomaly these days and that all takes time. The artwork sucks. Fire that guy.
