man i always try when a new album comes out, but ever since Xenoplanet this band has been a snoozefest. Reimagined is ok but the rest of it put me to sleep. ill spin it a few more times and see if it grows on me.

I don't usually dig modern prog-metal but this album is kind of interesting, some parts are lacking enough feeling or strength I would say (I don't mean growls btw) but the sound/atmosphere in general is fine.

It's almost an hour long so some of this could've been cut. I'm currently listening without Reimagined or Absolve like that comment a page or 2 ago mentioned, and it's a more digestible listen.

I think Absolve breaks up the album well though, gives it a little shot in the arm. I could do w/o Reimanged, although I do enjoy the song

Absolved and Reimagined are good but they could've been bonus tracks or something. The albums strength's shine out more with the reduced length.

I hope they use even more piano in the future. It works so well in Relapse.

This is definitely their most brooding, subtle, and somber album to date. They spent over a year writing this, so you have to assume that everything was done on purpose. The vocals were sung and mixed quietly, in order to evoke a certain emotion. The album is intended to be a melodic, atmospheric look at death, specifically the death of a friend of the band. They didn't have crazy breakdowns, or harsh-as-fuck vocal screams because they didn't think they were appropriate. They wanted to write these more standard-structured, contemplative songs. I quite like this style of music the older I get.

It seems to be a trend (as everyone is saying) for heavy, proggy bands to shift more and more towards clean vocals, and away from growls and chugs as the members grow older. I think that's a tendency not just in music, but in people, in general. You tend to mellow out over time. If you don't, you tend to go fucking bonkers, or stagnate in the same mental pattern.

If you like the old albums, and not this album, then go listen to them.

Also, the tone of his voice is fucking amazing, though I wish he sung a bit stronger overall (not necessarily screaming).

Wow, solid first comment.

"though I wish he sung a bit stronger overall (not necessarily screaming)."

That seems to be everyone's greater point, not that we need screams and "harshness", just that the vocals seem relatively uninspired, which is surprising considering the subject matter

That cover calls for growls, and you know it.

Nah, just kidding, if I want to listen to this kind of contemplative, ambience prog rock I'd go with Tesseract, and even them are not doing very good in later albums.

I couldn't even get through the whole thing. I started skipping halfway through tracks. This is probably the most lifeless thing I've heard so far this year.

Even though you're kidding, I agree with you.

Don't know what the problem is with Absolve. It's one of my favorite tracks off this album.

There isn't a problem with absolve. It's great.

However, I'm finding that nothing on here aside from Return to Earth and Godspeed stands up on its own. This album is totally something that needs to be appreciated as a whole... which can be hard for some to do.

I think it can be hard for some to do because this album is album has a certain theme/aura to it where you will not find dramatic changes in the style of music.

Hell... when they released the first studio update, there was a bit shown in the end that showed off an extended solo from Godspeed, even double bass drums kicking in. I was so excited to hear that part but they cut it out. I understood why on their part, it would be out of place in this album.

I think the very soft vocals fit well with the theme of this album. Language had Mike soaring, this is much more contemplative. There are some growls in there, very faint and in the background though. I vibe so much with this right now with where I'm at in life, I've noticed myself disliking abrasive music lately (couldn't get into the new Converge) so this is straight up my alley. At times it's music I wish I could write.

Excited to see where they go after this since Clairvoyant and Language are brother/sister type albums.
