I mean rage was big, but i don't think they even sold 10 million records, and I remember hearing they only ever played like 300 shows total, so its not like he got filthy rich and said fuck it. Maybe I just drool over the guy, but it feels like maybe he felt the whole thing became too corporate and the band lost its sense of purpose or something.

I get the sense that there's nothing for him to say. The world is the same but worse, and everything Rage said still applies. Returning to it would be redundant and like picking the lowest hanging fruit possible. Zack seems to have actual integrity which is quite rare nowadays.

Great review. Definitely spent a great deal of my childhood jamming some RATM, but I'm afraid to listen to this.

These guys played at Riot Fest while I was waiting for Jawbreaker and it was 85% covers.

I made sure to show up for the tail end of Killing in the Name because I knew the crowd would go wild for the "Fuck you, etc." part

Yeah I mean as much as I loved the last two records (BoLA is essentially my favorite Rage Against the Machine album) I think they pretty much made the best decision they could after Renegades: with the band essentially staying together but working with different vocalists
I've never been hugely into Audioslave but it was a better option for those 3 then almost inevitable option of just becoming a parody act

also, the onslaught of 1's & 2's seem a bit like overkill based on what I've heard from this record

What's more overkill is anybody giving this more than a 3.

If you've heard it you'd understand why they're 1's and 2's.

'Legalize Me' sounds like the worst Red Hot Chili Peppers song in history

Heard their first few songs while waiting for M.I.A. That was a nice little warm-up.

Doofus if you want to hear "the worst Red Hot Chili Peppers song in history", listen to Take Me Higher. I believe it fits your descriptor more accurately.
